The Best Hotels of 2019 (Writer's Personal Opinion)

2019 has been an incredible year for architecture and design, especially in the luxury hotel space. Innovative architects and interior designers have raised the bar for contemporary design, while providing inspiration for other designers around the world. Here are five of the best hotels of 2019; high-end hotels that have made their mark on the design landscape in 2019.

The Fife Arms

Designed by Russel Sage, The Fife Arms hotel in Braemar, Scotland is a renovated 19th century Victorian coaching inn decorated to resemble a private country house. The hotel features over 14,000 pieces of contemporary art and antiques. The hotel seamlessly blends historical luxury with modern design.

Belmond Cap Juluca

Belmond Cap Juluca in Anguilla, British West Indies blends a Greco-Moorish architectural design with an interior inspired by the natural beauty of Anguilla. The design maximizes the hotel’s proximity to the beach and creates a visual experience that is calm and relaxing.

Conrad Washington, D.C.

Conrad Washington, D.C. is an oasis set in an urban backdrop. This luxury hotel was designed by Rottet Studio. The design seems simple and minimalistic at first, but the use of space is quite dynamic and fluid. The hotel also showcases an impressive gallery of contemporary art.

The Prestige Hotel

The Prestige Hotel in Georgetown, within the Penang state of Malaysia, reimagines Victorian design for the new millennium. The Prestige Hotel draws from the art of illusion, as well as Malaysia’s colonial past. The result is an experience that feels modern and sophisticated, yet still rich with history and local charm.

Paris Court

Paris Court, a recently restored hotel in Budapest, Hungary, combines Neo-gothic, Art Nouveau, and Moorish design inspirations. The hotel had fallen into disrepair, but now the historic and ornate beauty of the building has been renewed. At the same time, the new design incorporates contemporary aesthetics and modern conveniences.

Architects and interior designers are redefining what it means to be a luxury hotel. The hottest hotels focus on creating an experience and not just a place to sleep. By combining elements of local design, historic details, and modern style and functionality, designers have created some truly one-of-a-kind hotels. These five luxury hotels have already raised the bar for interior design in 2019.
