One week down, 51 weeks to go.  2017 is getting off to a great start for DBI.  For the new year, DBI is starting a weekly review blog post.  We want to post a blog each Friday to share what we learned, what we read, what we are excited about, and give a general view of what we are up to.

For this week, the theme has been planning.  Next week all the DBI employees will meet in Seattle. We are traveling for from Denver and New York to Seattle to plan the best way to build off the successes of the past year.  We will work to develop a strategy for the next 12 months for both the Architecture and Construction/Development business unit.

What I have been doing this week is to create a way forward for these meetings.  I think about planning for 2017 in three rails out ahead of us.  One rail is Architecture.  What are the growing specialties and projects for the coming year?  I am also working with existing clients to strategies their hiring needs and growth goals for 2017.

James will work on the same type of plan for Construction and Development.  What parts of the country are seeing development money?  What project type is being built?  We are also working with these clients to plan a staffing strategy for 2017.

The third rail is where these two areas overlap.  This is the area I like.  One of my most favorite parts of my job is when I can consult with a developer on their yearly plan.  Over the years I have found that DBI is in a unique position to provide more than “warm bodies”.  With our experience, influence and activity in the market, and continued education, DBI has become a strategic player in finding the right talent, understanding the market, consulting on pay structure, and helping our clients develop a strong employee brand.  We are a true partner and I love it.

So, as you can imagine, the week has been very strategic and forward thinking.  A lot of fun!

Look for my report next Friday on some of the trends we are planning for as well as our ways to help clients and candidates be successful in 2017.
