This project has been on the web for some time but when I came across it I had to add my own take on it’s stunning simplicity and strange union with the surrounding area.

At first glance the structure looks like an alien ship that has crash landed.  One side of the structure sits within the hill while the other side cantilevers over the hill.  It’s concrete and glass, hard angles and  tapered underside are totally disparate form the trees and scrubs that surround it.

Casa no Geres almost tips over the edge of the hill.

But it is not from the outside that this house is in harmony with it’s surroundings.

The plan of this home is simple, letting the outdoors become the focal point.

Large windows and simple lines draw the eye to the outdoors.  This attention to clean design lets the natural surroundings become the focal point.

The project was designed by Portugal based firm Correia/Ragazzi Aquitectos. The owners, Mica and Pinto Ferreira, gave the designers complete control of this 60 square-meter house located in the Peneda-Geras National Park along the Spanish border in Portugal.
