Our new client, a well-established and expanding full-service architectural firm in Pioneer Square (Seattle) is hiring a Project Architect to join their firm. The Project Architect’s role is to create successful projects by identifying project objectives, creating a master plan to achieve those objectives, and implementing the plan by artful direction of the entire project team. The PA works through all opportunities, hurdles, and complexity encountered along the way in a straight-forward, clear and collaborative manner.
Required Work Experience:
- Understand client’s project goals and track them throughout the project to ensure they are achieved, thinking creatively and offering solutions if project requirements change
- Develop close working relationships with client’s project manager and others on their implementation team
- Responsible for ensuring professional service agreements are prepared and executed. Directly responsible for scope and fee language
- Responsible for defining detailed scope of services and understanding when the firm is asked to exceed our scope
- Responsible for creating a clear plan for coordinating efficient execution of project design, regulatory approvals, and production, and to obtain timely client decisions for all facets of the project
- Will have ownership of the project’s five key success factors: program, budget, schedule, quality, and sustainability
- Oversee the production of design, construction documents, specifications and other project documentation, to include creating and executing a team work plan within budget and schedule for each phase and sub-phase of design work
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- 8+ years of relevant project management experience in the Seattle area
- A working understanding of all jurisdictional and code requirements. Important codes include, land use code, international building code with local amendments, local Energy Codes, and ADA
- Success in assembling a set of drawings appropriate for the phase of the project – including Early Design Guidance, Master Use Permit, SD, DD, CD, and can write/edit a specification manual
- Have an understanding of how buildings are constructed and typical construction methods, how to read and evaluate a construction cost estimate, including construction and project soft costs
- Experience with construction administration and understands the role of the architect during construction
- Proficient in drafting and managing an appropriate schedule for the scope of work assigned, understands the complexities of the typical project process and associated timelines and milestones
- Knowledge of creating and managing a project budget to include: planning the work and allocating firm resources as required to accomplish the project objectives while meeting firm profit targets
- Exposure to developing contracts with an understanding of typical terms found in owner/architect agreements and contracts. Can draft scope and fee portion of contract documents, letters of authorization and additional service agreements. Can prepare sub consultant contracts and manage consultant invoices and scopes of work
- Experience with various software involved with this position including architectural drawing software (Revit/Cad/Sketchup, etc), Graphic Design and Publishing software (In Design, Photoshop, etc) and project and financial management tools (Ajera, Newforma, Project, Word, Excel, AIA contract documents)
